Woodfarm Community School's SEN management

At Woodfarm Community School the Special Needs Coordinator uses SENCO Manager to maintain the special needs pupil database (register), produce statistical reports for governors and inspectors, write pupil profiles, keep records of attainment and test data, record details relating to statutory assessment and exclusions, write letters to external specialists and parents, take minutes at meetings, write School Action Plus IEPs and Reviews, and store Education Plans and Reviews for all the special needs pupils in the school.

Additionally,IEP Pro is installed on several PCs throughout the school, for teachers to use when writing School Action Education Plans and Reviews. Once written, they are exported to memory stick or pen drive then imported into the SENCO's version of SENCO Manager. This automatically updates the special needs pupil database and ensures the Special Needs Coordinator always has a complete set of past and current Group and Individual Education Plans for all SEN pupils. She is also able to support new teachers by sharing the writing of Education Plans.

Working with other teachers, the Special Needs Coordinator has devised a set of targets and strategies based on a spelling programme used in the school and these have been added to the target database in SENCO Manager. A team of teachers working in the same year group have developed additional targets and have shared these by exporting and importing between their copies of SENCO Manager installed on PCs at school and at home.

The target database books on CD for Literacy, Maths, Communication and Behaviour are used as a reference when discussing future targets with pupils and parents at Review meetings and relevant pages are printed out for distribution and discussion at staff meetings.

Next term, it is planned to transfer the Complete SEN Package onto the newly upgraded school network. SENCO Manager is to be installed all on workstations and will be "looking" at the same database on the main server so there is no need for exporting or importing with disks or memory sticks. The two levels of login for SENCO Manager ("manager" and "teacher") allows for full access to all functions for the SENCO and limited access to only the functions that teachers previously had in their stand-alone installations of IEP Pro.
