When I import pupils from a CTF, current provision is missing.
This is because the DCSF have recently changed the format of the CTF. You need to download and install an update for Provision Map Writer which will allow import of the new format CTF:
Select "Run" or "Open" to install immediately; otherwise, to take the update to another computer, click "Save" and save to a memory stick or similar - on the other computer simply double-click the saved file ("PMW1update" or "PMW1vistaupdate") and follow the on-screen instructions. None of your existing data will be affected.
Is there a user's manual?
There is a detailed user's manual stored in the software itself. To open and/or print the manual, from the Main Menu go to Help\Read the manual.
How do I update year groups for pupils in the Inclusion Register at the start of the academic year?
There are two ways:
- from Main menu go to Admin\Utilities and click "Update year groups". This will move all pupils up one year.
- if you need to import new pupils at the year start, create a CTF file then from the Main menu go to Inclusion register\Import pupils...and import the new pupils. At the same time you will be asked if you want to update various details for pupils already in the Inclusion Register, including year group.
In Windows Vista I have a message warning me of a "Potential security threat" when I open Provision Map Writer for the first time after installing it.
Please be assured that there is absolutely no security threat posed by Provision Map Writer and that this message is caused by a Microsoft-acknowledged “bug” in Windows Vista. You will not see the message again unless you login as a different user in which case again, you will see the message once only.
Can I link the Register in PMW with the Register in SENCO Manager?
Yes but firstly, you need to have at least Build 11 of PMW. If that's not the case download the latest version:
Now, in Build 11 or later, go to Admin\Utilities click "Link to SENCO Manager register" and point PMW at the SENCO Manager database (called "SENCOm#Be" where # is the version number).
Now open the Inclusion Register in PMW and you will see a button called "Reconcile with SENCO Manager"; click this button and you then have the option to either update PMW or update SENCO Manager.
You should decide in which program you will in future make your Register amendments and additions and then make all future changes in that one program. Updates can then be actioned from the button in the PMW Inclusion Register. Be very careful to update in the correct direction. It is recommended that you make backups from both programs before carrying out updates.
