This software was developed
in response to Foundation Stage practitioners who wanted
to be able to produce a professionally presented, informative
and easy to understand report to parents on their child's
progress. Many of the practioners we spoke to did not feel
that the Foundation Stage Profile scale booklet alone provided
parents with the information and advice they required in
a friendly format that they could share with their child.
Advice from the QCA
website on Foundation Stage profile
assessment and reporting to parents:
"At
the end of the Foundation Stage practitioners have to report
progress against the early learning goals in the context
of the scales to parents or carers.
The Optional scales booklets are non-statutory. Whilst
settings may use these when making judgements, QCA does not
advise or require this.....
Parents have indicated that they prefer written
reports of their child’s progress and an opportunity
to discuss these with knowledgeable practitioners. Parents
find raw
scores difficult and unhelpful to understand.....
The style of the report should be decided by the practitioner
and the headteacher or manager of the setting, with the needs
of the child and parent firmly in mind."
